Hot Cross

One of the most influential and original screamo bands, and one of my favorites, if not my favorite. Hot Cross was probably the first real screamo band i listened to.They are very inspiring musically and lyrically in my case. Their sound is characterized by mathy structures that shift from aggressive frustration to sluggish lament. Billy Werner's lyrics often speak of existential themes. They had several ep's and splits along with two full length releases; Cryonics being my favorite. They broke up after releasing Risk Revival in 2007.

Jubilee / Zwounds

Prelude to the beast that became Innards. Jubilee and Zwounds were both from Texas. Jubilee reminds me a little of Desaparecidos, they have a sort of straight forward approach, but the structure to all their stuff is pretty tasteful and they play it super thrashy. Zwounds sounds like some 70's shit like Santana, except for this is 2000 something and they mixed it with post rock and some other violent frantic punk shit.

Fiction Like Non-Fiction

Legit screamo band from California. Youthful and genuine sounding with beautiful lyrics. The rest of their material is available for free download in their Last.fm page. I'm pretty sure the band has been inactive for a while now, which sucks 'cause this stuff is great. Please help yourself.

thediscordofaforgottensketch

The Discord of a Forgotten Sketch is a skramz band from Montreal, their style is jazzy and spastic. Ever since I heard their songs on the four way split with Beau Navire, Te LLoraria un Puto Rio, & Carrion Spring; I have been anxious to listen to more by these guys. This self titled album is refreshing in terms of contemporary skramz releases, picking up where "Le Deux" (4 way split) series left off. Check out their bandcamp; streaming the album is free and all it takes is a donation to be able to download the digital album, which is totally worth it.

Raven McCoy

Skramz band from Copenhagen Denmark, their sound is fast, tight, and super punk rock; reminiscent of A Corrosive Melody. This demo blew me away. The drummer, Niclas, hooked me up with lyrics to the demo which are posted under the comments section for this post; enjoy.

Tzadikim Nistarim

Pre-Adobe Homes screamo band, they have a slower and more toned down feeling to their sound. You can definitely hear the Adobe Homes style becoming fleshed out in this release; vocals guitars and drums. A tasteful seven inch, released in 2007.

I Wrote Haikus About Cannibalism In Your Yearbook

This is a new release by the defunct, I Wrote Haikus About Cannibalism In Your Yearbook, all the songs from the demo have been redone and four new tracks are added to the line up; there is also a bonus track included. I love this band, their lyrics (embedded to the mp3's), and their youthful style, you should get a hold of this record asap.

Beau Navire

After being a big fan of I Wrote Haikus About Cannibalism In Your Yearbook, and not having any new material for the longest time, i can at least take solace in listening to some new refreshing bay area tunes. This is Beau Navire, they have members of i wrote haikus... and Loma Prieta!

Lyrics are embedded to the music files.

The Reptilian

The Reptilian sounds way more pissed on their new full length, but that's a not a bad thing in my book. They also manage to keep their sound from before while still fresh.

The Reptilian

Kalamazoo, Michigan melodic screamo; seems like the scene up in the Midwest has developed a more toned down and mathy brand of the genre, which really has captured me. It excites me to see genres being blended in new ways.

Loma Prieta

San Francisco's finest, Loma Prieta, are on the forefront of contemporary skramz, all of their releases are great. They never stay the same, but they always stay true. the lyrics to this album are very cryptic, there is still a lot about them that i don't understand. they have a newer release called Dark Mountain, it's all worth checking out and definitely buying.

Age Sixteen

Emo band from Baltimore with members of Sawhorse, Surf-Nazis on Ecstacy, and ex-members of Lilu Dallas

Age sixteen plays a very distinctive style of emo with clean fast guitars, spacey reverb, and complex drumming, often compared to Suis La Lune, with vocals sounding somewhat similar to a more emotional/aggressive Bear vs. Shark

Two beautiful releases by Age Sixteen
